ZOOL. Mammifère cétacé, à nageoire dorsale très développée, dont la taille varie de 10 à 30 mètres selon l'espèce considérée et qui est remarquable par sa forme élancée, hydrodynamique, et les rides qui sillonnent sa poitrine. Synon. baleinoptère. Petit rorqual; rorqual commun (ou rorqual à bec); rorqual bleu. Les rorquals sont très menacés par l'industrie baleinière, dont ils sont, avec les cachalots, les proies principales (Animaux 1981).
